Changes in legislation in 1997 requires all car drivers who passed their driving test after the 1st January 1997 to obtain a separate B+E licence in order for them to tow a trailer which exceeds 750kg on a vehicle weighing 3,500kg, or vehicle and trailer/caravan/horsebox combination over 3,500kg, see below:
If you passed your car driving test on or after 1 January 1997 you can:
MAM is the limit on how much the vehicle can weigh when it’s loaded.
You have to pass the B+E test if you want to tow anything heavier.
If you passed your car test before 1 January 1997 you’re usually allowed to drive a vehicle and trailer combination up to 8,250kg MAM. View your driving licence information to check.
You’re also allowed to drive a minibus with a trailer over 750kg MAM.
Here at CPC Nationwide our one to one B+E Training allows drivers to gain that additional category on their driving licence and tow vehicles that reach a specific weight limit. Our training courses are usually 8 hours long plus test using our vehicle & trailer.
What will I be doing during my B+E test?
